Haorong Sun, SPIN intern and a recipient of the NCSA Letter of Recognition for his outstanding contributions to a project entitled "Automatic Notation of Complex Rhythms," contributed to an invited presentation at the 2019 International Workshop on Computer Music and Audio Technology held at the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. His work was centered around DISSCO, a Digital Instrument for Composition and Sound Synthesis, that was developed by the members of the University of Illinois Computer Music Project, Argonne National Laboratory, and NCSA. The output of a computer-assisted (algorithmic) software using random procedures is not necessarily compatible with the requirements of Western notation system. The problem was solved using sieves, logical filters that employ modulo and Boolean operations.
